About RAIDP

RAIDP is a follow-on project of the Rural Infrastructure Project (RIP) that was implemented successfully under The World Bank's Learning and Innovation Loan (LIL). So, the lesson learned in the RIP is incorporated to the great extent in RAIDP. This project is under implementation in accordance with the decentralization policy of the Government of Nepal. It is one of the important major projects under MoLD/DoLIDAR.

 

Project Development Objectives

Residents of participating districts utilize improved rural transport infrastructure and services and benefit from enhanced access to social services and economic opportunities.

Outcome Indicators
a)  20% increase in motorized and non motorized trips at the end of the project.
b)  20% reduction in travel time at the end of the project.

b) Support the decentralized governance system for rural infrastructure through better donor coordination
c)  Apply multi-sectoral planning approach
d)  Improve quality standards
e)  Ensure district road maintenance
f)  Strengthen institutional capabilities of participating DDC/DTO together with MOLD/DoLIDAR Enhance community     participation.

Project Duration FY 2062/063 to FY 2067/068 a)  Approval Date: June 21, 2005.
b)  Effective Date: August 16, 2005.
c)  Closing Date: December 31, 2010.

 

Participating Districts

A. Rural Roads :
Kailali, Bardiya, Banke, Salyan, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Syangja, Kaski, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahattari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Udayapur.

Additional 10 districts from F/Y 064/65:

Saptari, Bara, Parsa, Tanahu,Gulmi, Arghakhachi, Dang, Surkhet and Kanchanpur.

B. Trail Bridges:

Kailali, Salyan, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Syangja, Kaski, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, Udayapur, Dolpa, Kalikot, Mugu, Darchula, Bhajhang, Bajura, Humla, Jumla, Jajarkot, Rukum, Mustang, Manang, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha.

 

Project Components

A. Rural Transport Infrastructure Component (US$34.63 million)
All-season Rural Roads Subcomponent – 800 Km Dry-season Rural Roads Subcomponent – 200 Km Rural Road Maintenance Subcomponent – 3500 Km Trail Bridge Construction – 350 nos. in 28 districts Community Infrastructure, Livelihood Support and Pilot Rural Transport Services Subcomponent.

B.Capacity Building and Advisory Services (US$ 7.31 million)

Training Institutional Strengthening Subcomponent (ISAP) Planning Subcomponent Rural Transport Services Study and Policy Development Subcomponent Socioeconomic Impact Monitoring Study Implementation Support Component.
